Job Description

Tremco's Commercial Sealants and Waterproofing Division is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer at our Schul/WillSeal facility in Hudson, NH

This position develops and maintains effective Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) programs, including planning and implementing EHS strategies, policies, programs, and processes to achieve peer leading results; ensuring compliance by all company operations with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations and requirements, internal corporate policy and external regulatory requirements and initiatives; and establishing and continually demonstrating expectations of striving to avoid and minimize incidents and injuries.

In addition, this role furthers the goal of company-wide shift to full automation with heavy focus on detailed reporting, comparative analysis, and hands-on testing. The EHS Engineer develops maintenance plans; machine schematics, and trains others in the proper use of all company equipment. Assists in both optimizing current equipment and designing new equipment through drafting, testing, and collaboration with third party vendors.


  • Creates standard operating procedures for manufacturing processes for safety purposes and conducts training sessions to educate workers.
  • Evaluates, develops and revises company-wide safety management and hazard prevention programs and procedures to ensure a safe workplace for all employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Develops, promotes, and implements a proactive and environmentally safety focused culture throughout the organization
  • Develops, promotes, and implements a proactive plant specific EHS committee. Oversee agenda and minutes.
  • Evaluate, recommend and procure PPE and equipment using corporate preferred vendors.
  • Drives awareness and accountability for EH&S performance through all levels of the organization - provides support and ensures root cause and other analysis is completed to reduce incidents.
  • Sustains productive and collaborative working relationships with all levels of the organization in an effort to promote proactive use of the EH&S initiatives.
  • Ensures EHS compliance with Federal, state and provincial and local regulations.
  • Monitors, interprets and analyzes the EH&S laws, standards and regulations that impacts business operations in the company’s geographical areas.
  • Compiles, calculates and manages associated injury safety statistics and completes EHS and client record keeping requirements.
  • Collaborates with Legal and HR departments to monitor enforcement of standards and regulations and review any current issues, e.g. multiple incident employees and discipline.
  • Develops and oversees worker safety training programs, investigates and recommends courses of action for on-the-job accidents, analyzing potential worker safety risks in a facility and implementing measures to mitigate them, and facilitating required government safety inspections.
  • Coordinates and conducts site accident prevention and safety training programs involving work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for building materials, chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Identifies and evaluates critical gaps in compliance or findings from incidence reports and collaborates with company executives, site leadership, and insurance risk management services to develop and implement corrective measures and provide expertise in the inspection, analysis, audit and investigation of our environmental and safety practices
  • Furthers goal of company-wide shift to full automation with heavy focus on detailed reporting, comparative analysis, and hands-on testing.
  • Develops and maintains all maintenance plans; machine schematics; and trains others in the proper use of all company equipment. 
  • Assists in both optimizing current equipment and designing new equipment through drafting, testing, and collaboration with third party vendors. 
  • Provide drafting support through such programs as Fusion 360 and AutoCAD
  • Plans and conducts regular safety, quality and environmental system compliance audits and risk assessments.
  • Assess the organization’s business practices to plan the long and short-term objectives for compliance risk management, and develop training and compliance strategies to minimize risk going forward


  • Minimum 8 years of on-the-job progressive experience in leading and implementing safety and environmental health programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise and knowledge of health and safety regulations required.
  • Prior experience working with local, state and provincial, and federal regulatory agencies as well as involvement in negotiations preferred.


  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Word and Excel; EHS information systems; and agency reporting software.
  • Ability to anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring problems, and take appropriate action proactively.
  • Ability to think critically, define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of mechanical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Demonstrated and verifiable ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, e.g., from hourly employees to senior management. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing and listen effectively; ability to present information to a diverse audience.
  • Proven leadership ability to effectively influence and lead others.
  • Ability to prioritize work, work autonomously and accept constructive feedback


  • Ability to travel to other RPM facilities as required
